When Seatylock hit the big time with a very successful kickstarter campaign that generated $137k from 1377 customers, Ilan Mor didn't realise that in fact he had created a novel foldable lock. Because he was pushed for space trying to create a saddle and lock combo, he had to be very inventive with the locking portion.
He created a foldable, compact and secure lock that marries the strength of a U Lock and the flexible of a Chain Lock.
This listing is for the compact version which is smaller, lighter than the classic version, and almost as secure.
Here is how Ilan came up with the foldylock:
"The concept of the folding lock was developed to join the benefits of two traditional locks - the "Chain lock" and the "U lock".
The Chain lock is very flexible and can lock the bike to a variety of objects, but its protection level is mostly low and it is bulky for riding. The U lock, on the other hand, is mostly ranked high on the protection scale, but because of the fixed shape it very inconvenient to use.
Folding locks, like a U lock, ranks high on the protection scale but with the flexibility of a Chain lock. It can also be folded into a small case while riding."
