Redshift Sports was founded in 2013 by Stephen, Erik, and Scott with the goal of making components that help cyclists and triathletes ride further, faster, and more comfortably on the bikes they already own. We are a small group of mechanical engineers who happen to be avid (if somewhat average) cyclists and triathletes.
Prior to founding Redshift Sports, we managed (and still manage) Ripple Design LLC, an engineering consulting and product design firm in Philadelphia. Ripple Design works on a wide range of products, from medical devices to large-scale landmine clearance equipment. We drew on this extensive design, prototyping and manufacturing experience to bring our first product - the Switch Aero System - to market.
In June 2013, we launched the Switch Aero System on Kickstarter, a crowd-funding platform that lets independent backers jump-start small businesses and projects. The response was overwhelming - people loved the idea of maximizing the versatility of their existing road bikes. We raised 2.5 times our original funding goal, which allowed us to bring the system to market. We can't thank our Kickstarter backers enough - none of this would have been possible without their support! You can check out the original Kickstarter video below - the system has evolved a lot since those first prototype units!
In late 2015, we launched our second product - the ShockStop - on Kickstarter. The response was again fantastic and with our backers help we were able to bring the ShockStop to market in 2016.
We've got lots more innovative products in store so stay tuned!
Stephen signed up for the 2009 Philadelphia Sprint Triathlon on a whim, and after successfully not drowning during the swim, he was hooked. As a mechanical engineer, he prefers to optimize his equipment rather than train harder. Stephen's background is in nuclear power and children's stroller design - he dreams of one day designing a nuclear-powered baby stroller.
A high-school swimmer and collegiate pole-vaulter, Erik took to triathlon like a flying fish. He's consistently one of the first competitors out of the water and prefers single-loop bike courses that are entirely downhill. Erik is a mechanical engineer who has worked on everything from V-22 helicopters to landmine clearance equipment.
Scott swam breaststroke in high school, and can be found frog-kicking competitors all along the eastern seaboard. A strong cyclist, Scott is currently experimenting with training plans that integrate large quantities of Belgian beer. He is also a mechanical engineer (seeing a theme here?) with a background in nuclear power.
As an artist, Diana immediately connected with the creative minds at Redshift when she joined the team. Now, she is a Diana-of-all-trades in charge of sales, customer service, and assembling products crazy fast. She’s also training for her next big art triathlon, which consists of showing her artwork along the East Coast, drinking complimentary wine, and a lot of socializing.
